Venetian Mask Cake

I created this cake in 2012 when I was a senior in high school (I think... It's been a while) for the National Capital Area Cake Show where the cake took Best in Division in the Adult Beginner cake competition.
The sides of the cake were hand painted with airbrush colors over fondant. Each painting took 1.5-4 hrs to paint.
To make the masks, I sculpted an awkward polymer clay face which I used as a form to drape the fondant faces. Then I just winged designs for all the masks. I made a few extra for fun/so I could pick/choose the ones that would work best on the cake itself.
The scrolls were piped flat on wax paper with royal icing, allowed to harden and then glued onto the cake later which was a HORRIBLE decision because I'm terrible at getting fondant onto the cake smoothly, so there's gaps between the fondant and scrolls...
If I'm being honest, I love the idea for the design and the individual pieces don't look bad, but I think the overall cake is a bit awkward.
